3 Fun Tips To Help You Plan Your Own Socially Distanced Indoor Camping Trip

We are officially on the last month of Summer vacation and that means trying to get in those last family getaways before school starts. With us still being in the middle of a pandemic and making sure to follow social distancing rules, it can be hard to plan a vacation that is safe enough for the entire family to enjoy. For us it was planning what would be our first camping trip.

For years both kids have asked to go camping, and this would be the year we would rent a car and go upstate to rent a cabin and enjoy some camping with. my sister and parents. But with us being locked up at home to ensure everyones safety, we haven't seen my sister and family since March. Which has left all of our family trips that were planned up in the air, including our annual visit to Mexico.

I know that once September comes along everything will be crazy so a camping trip of some sort was in order. I got to planning and even though it wasn't your usual one, it was overall a memorable one that we got to share as a family. Our camping trip involved a trip to the supermarket for some snacks, checking out some birds and the moon, and then setting up camp in our living room.

Below you will find 3 fun things to help you plan your own social distance camping trip.

Looking Up At The Sky With Thames & Kosmos My Discovery Telescope At Your Local Park

When camping you usually get to sit outside of your tent and look up at the sky while you try to find stars and constellations. For our camping trip, we headed to Central Park at around 5pm, when it wasn't too sunny outside and we searched for birds. Both kids loved looking at up the trees and tried to identify the birds that we spotted. Since Central Park is full of tress and hidden paths that make you feel like you are in a forest. It felt like we were hiking, which was the perfect element to our socially distanced camping trip. We stayed in the park a little longer and as it got dark, and searched the sky for stars with our telescope. The only con, is that we had only one telescope, for the four of us. Even though we live in the city, we were able to spot a star or two which was the perfect end to our walk in the park.

Setting Up Camp

Even though our view was not the one we envisioned for our first camping trip, We still had fun setting up our tents in the living room. Good thing for the fireplace that can be found on Youtube. I turned off the lights, and played it on our television. With our tents covered in little lights and the fireplace playing in the background. We were ready for some yummy snacks and scary stories.

Snacks

No camping trip is complete without some yummy s'mores, It's always been my dream to eat some s'mores by the campfire. For this time we got to enjoy ours on our living room floor. Still freshly made and warm enough to make us feel like we were camping outdoors. I filled up our thermos with hot cocoa to go along with our s'mores. Then we sat down in our indoor campsite.

We told scary stories and listened to the fireplace crackling in the background. As the night ended I watched my husband chatting away with our son, and baby girl cuddled in my arms as we talked about the birds and the way the stars looked through the telescope. It was definitely a memorable first camping trip and even though, it wasn't what we thought it would look like, it will definitely be one to be treasured.

What is one socially distanced adventure that you've planned for this Summer 2020?

Love,

Kary xoxo
