Race lineup! Waiting for the race to begin. |
I did it!! Saturday morning was spent running the city streets of NY and Central Park.
I got up at 6:30am and got ready to walk to 59th street. That's where the Start line was at. The race would start at 8am so I had plenty of time to walk and warm up.
It was cloudy but the sun gods were shining down on us through a little pinhole, which was a miracle since it was pouring the day before.
There was a little breeze in the air that made me believe that it would be nice and breezy during the 6 miles.
Boy, was I wrong! By mile 3 I felt so out of it, it was so humid, hot & sunny.
We ran from 59th street to 90th street, from there we went into Central Park to finish the race. I felt good even though I hadn't run for 2 months, my legs really started feeling it on mile 4, and all I could keep thinking was "You got this", "Your almost there", "Your stronger than you think you are", it helped me get through those painful miles! I'm 99.9% sure that I am not smiling in any of my race pictures - ha! It was a hard run.
Than the best thing ever happened, I saw the 5 Mile sign and I knew this race was in the bag, it was also great to have had "This Girl Is On Fire" come on while I was running past this sign. This song always gets to me, whenever my munchkin and I are together and this song comes on he goes "mommy, your song! Your on fire :)"
That last mile was a good one in which I freed my mind of worries that have been going on right now, it was a motivating and emotional one. And when I saw that Finish Line I was the happiest girl ever.
Once I crossed the finish line, I almost threw up. I had to move to the side and hold my knees until the feeling went away, I than proceeded to walk towards my medal :)
This race was special for so many reasons it was my first race ever many years ago (more info here) and this time I got to run it by myself. Even though I missed my mom, it felt great to relive the memories as I ran through Central Park. Oh and there was no crying or whining this time. Well maybe a tear or two but out of happiness.
